Reed Exhibitions Taps TMG to Publish JCK Magazine and JCKOnline.com
Washington, D.C. (June 4, 2010) – Reed Exhibitions and TMG unveil the new and expanded JCK magazine this week at the JCK show in Las Vegas. JCK magazine is long considered to be the industry authority in the United States and around the world.
Reed Exhibitions, which acquired JCK magazine from its sister company Reed Business Information, hired TMG to manage the publishing operation of the magazine, e-newsletters and website. The first assignment was to refresh the look and content of the magazine and online property, while maintaining JCK’s independent, authoritative voice. The result is a luxurious, large-format, 240-page June issue driving readers to a robust JCKOnline.com.
"JCK magazine, with its long history of leadership in covering the jewelry industry, joined now with the JCK Show becomes a unified brand," says Nancy Walsh, executive vice president, Reed Exhibitions. "Selecting the right partner was critical for us, as the magazine and JCKonline had to retain it's journalistic integrity. TMG has exceeded our expectations about what was possible with the reinvention of JCK magazine. What's more, they did it in record time."
JCK magazine gives readers from all branches of the jewelry industry expanded coverage of the most important issues and style trends that impact their business. More in-depth features offer an insightful mix of stories covering everything from business intelligence, industry news, retail smarts, and what’s new in product and fashion. New and expanded sections of the magazine offer business-focused, expert-driven content that’s organized by jewelry product categories, so that every sector of the industry has a home in JCK magazine and at JCKOnline.
TMG tapped renowned art director Robert Newman, former design director of Details, Real Simple and Fortune, to redesign JCK magazine. TMG also hired most of the existing JCK editorial and advertising staff and has opened offices at 400 Madison Avenue in New York.
In what is considered a “coup” for the jewelry industry, TMG and Reed Exhibitions announced at the JCK show the hiring of JCK’s former publisher Mark Smelzer, who successfully led JCK for five years before leaving a year ago to become vice president and publisher of the Advocate. Previously, Smelzer was associate publisher of Variety.
JCK’s June issue boasts 120 advertising pages, a 48% increase over 2009. The magazine, which is the only paid subscription-based publication in the jewelry industry, will be published 10 times per year and offer expanded online content. JCK, which stands for Jewelers’ Circular Keystone, has an audience of 25,000 jewelry store retailers, manufacturers, designers and others within the industry.
JCKOnline.com provides critical information, breaking news, editorial and advertiser videos, and an interactive community for retailers to share ideas, insights, challenges and solutions. It’s the window into the global jewelry marketplace, connecting buyers and sellers, spotlighting emerging trends and research that the industry craves. JCK TV, launching at the show in Las Vegas, will be an integral part of the site.
“The launch of JCK magazine and JCKonline demonstrates what’s possible today in magazine and online publishing, particularly for a passionate industry with the #1 JCK show behind the initiative,” said Jane Ottenberg, president, TMG. “All things aligned — Reed Exhibition as great partners, a committed, talented team, and a great brand — to make this relaunch a success beyond our expectations.”
