Petersen is one of the most accomplished content marketing executives in the country, having been described as a “marketing genius” by Mediabistro, among other accolades. He was named one of min magazine’s Most Intriguing People in 2008, an honor that coincidentally went to Jane Ottenberg the following year.
"Matt adds strategic and operational leadership in a period of extraordinary growth for TMG," says Ottenberg. "He is a natural leader. Most important, his values are a perfect match with those of the amazing and passionate professionals at TMG. We couldn’t be happier.”
"His experience in integrated media, digital marketing, and CRM will expand and fortify TMG's value to our clients, and will prove invaluable as the company expands its offerings and client base,” says Richard Creighton.
Petersen was previously Senior Vice President and Head of Hearst Marketing Services, where he was part of the leadership team that led the successful acquisition of iCrossing, one of the largest independent digital marketing agencies. Prior to Hearst, Petersen spent 23 years at Meredith, where he rose to be Senior Vice President, Meredith Integrated Marketing. In this role, Petersen managed a staff of 450, led the business into the digital age, and grew revenues from $35 million to more than $150 million.
Content marketing has grown to be one of the most effective marketing solutions for companies, with studies indicating it is more impactful than traditional advertising. It is estimated to be a $47 billion industry. TMG is one of the largest custom media companies in the country.
“TMG has such a strong heritage in branded content and understands how to create, facilitate, and distribute authentic content for brands and organizations,” says Petersen. “I am delighted to join this company and work with custom marketing visionaries Richard and Jane, at a time of accelerated growth for the industry and TMG.
